What Greta Thunberg Doesn’t Want to Know
In June 2025, former climate activist Greta Thunberg was sitting in a screening room in the Israeli coastal city of Ashdod. Her ship, which had been heading for Gaza, had been brought to Israel by IDF soldiers. Now Thunberg and her crew had been invited to watch a video: a documentary about the Hamas atrocities of October 7.
Nothing came of it1: When the video began, Thunberg turned away and covered her ears. The screening was cut short.
If Thunberg were too sensitive to bear horrific scenes of violence, her reaction would be only too understandable. But Thunberg throws herself at every instance of violence she can find in the Middle East conflict—as long as it can be blamed on Israel. She turns her back on the suffering only when those suffering are Jewish.
How can one judge Israel’s conduct of war without showing even the slightest interest in the nature of the enemy Israel is facing? It’s as if one were to judge World War II without taking note of the Nazi atrocities.
Should Thunberg ever want to know who she is making common cause with, a report on the sexual atrocities of October 7—titled “Silenced No More”—has been available since May 20262. For this report, a commission spent two years analyzing over 10,000 photos and videos, as well as hundreds of statements from witnesses, experts, and family members. In doing so, it determined what Hamas & Co. mean by “resistance”.
People who are emotionally unstable should stop reading now. But anyone who can’t bring themselves to watch the brutality of Hamas shouldn’t pass judgment on Israel’s conduct of the war either.
What Hamas Understands by “Resistance”
What the commission found was systematic sexualized violence. Sexual torture aimed at inflicting maximum suffering and torment.
The Hamas terrorists tortured women with fire, mutilated them, gang-raped them, forcibly inserted objects into their genitals, shot them in the face and genitals, desecrated their corpses, and brutally murdered entire families. They did all of this on camera; they posted the horrific videos of their violence on social media to torment family members and provoke the greatest possible horror within Israeli society.
The video that Thunberg did not want to see is not publicly available: the scenes it contains are too disturbing. Canadian political consultant Warren Kinsella offers a glimpse of it3: The video shows severed babies’ heads; cheering terrorists standing next to murdered children; the corpses of retirees lying among their canes and walkers in the dust of the street; the naked bodies of women with smoke rising from their genitals or with nails driven into them; terrorists throwing hand grenades into civilian shelters, shooting at fleeing festivalgoers, and murdering entire families in a festive atmosphere.
A terrorist strikes the back of the neck of a critically wounded man with a garden hoe. Apparently, this terrorist is very devout, for with every blow he cries out: “God is great!”
On October 7, Hamas and Islamic Jihad murdered 1,200 people in southern Israel and wounded 5,400. It was the most horrific massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Afterward, the terrorists retreated to the Gaza Strip, along with 250 hostages who now faced hell on earth.
The Gaza War: Hamas’s Double Genocide—and How Israel Is Preventing It
Hamas had meticulously prepared for the war that was bound to follow for decades. And not, mind you, by taking precautions to protect its women and children: they were now to serve as human shields, from behind which the terrorists would fire on Israeli soldiers.
Shelters, the terrorists had created plenty—and even more than that: they had dug a tunnel system over 400 kilometers long, equipped with electricity, ample provisions, and thousands of access points to apartments. But not a single civilian was allowed to enter these refuges. They were intended exclusively for terrorists. The connected apartments served as supply depots, ambush sites, and weapons caches. The rockets, in particular, were stored in children’s rooms, under beds and cribs.
The fact that the civilian population was the first to be exposed to the inevitable attacks was part of a diabolical plan: the more civilian suffering, the better. After all, this suffering could be wonderfully filmed and disseminated to pin the blame on Israel.
Douglas Murray conveys just how barbarically Hamas had laid the groundwork on which Israel was forced to wage war4.
In every second or third residential building in Gaza, weapons were stored or access points to weapons caches had been created. In every school and kindergarten, AK-47, machine guns, and grenades were stored . Playgrounds served as entry points into the underground terrorist network. In violation of every rule of war, the terrorists fought in civilian clothing and misused civilian buildings as cover. Children were sent to place disguised bombs near Israeli soldiers.
Every day, Israeli soldiers saw groups of civilians approaching them with white flags. And every day, they were fired upon by terrorists hiding behind such groups of civilians.
How does one fight an enemy determined to commit genocide, to whom his own women and children—behind whom he hides—mean nothing?
That Israel did everything it could to spare the lives of enemy civilians as best it could under such horrific conditions; that Israel warned them of coming attacks; that it supplied the enemy population with food in the midst of war, knowing full well that Hamas would steal the care packages right from under the civilians’ noses to squander them itself or resell them at exorbitant prices: Who asked for that?
The truth lies in the eye of the beholder. And what that eye saw coming out of Gaza during the war was nothing but Hamas propaganda, disseminated via Hamas’s favorite broadcaster, Al-Jazeera, to Western media outlets as uncritical as they are image-hungry—such as the BBC, the NYT, ARD, and ZDF—as well as to TikTok and the like, the fast-paced news sources of the younger generation.
And so, soon all one saw were wailing Palestinian civilians amid the ruins and Israeli soldiers with a martial demeanor. Who would still want to concern themselves with trivialities like the fact that it was not Israel, but Hamas, that had brought its population—the population it was entrusted to care for—into this situation?
The Threat Potential Behind the Staged Weakness
October 7 gave a glimpse of the cruelty and malice of Israel’s enemies, but not of the threat they pose.
The terrorist allies—Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas—had far worse plans in store than the Hamas massacre of October 7. Only their fear of being intercepted by Israeli intelligence prevented them from coordinating more effectively. Had they done so, the horror scenario would likely have unfolded somewhat later, but on an entirely different scale.
At the same time as Hamas, Hezbollah would have struck in the north—as Sinwar had hoped. It didn’t just have 150,000 rockets and rocket launchers in position: Hezbollah had already made all the necessary preparations for a terrorist attack whose scale would have dwarfed everything Hamas committed on October 7. A barrage of ballistic missiles would have rained down on Israel from Iran, which the Israeli air defense system would no longer have been able to intercept—not to mention the nuclear bomb that was already within range.
Given such an unleashed terrorist threat, it is a realistic assumption that the Israeli population—or whatever portion of it would have remained alive—would have fled.
Why is it that hardly anyone in the West realizes that Israel narrowly escaped destruction? And that only extreme vigilance and timely military strikes can prevent “Holocaust 2.0,” which Israel’s enemies are working toward with such obsession?
Cyberwar
One reason is the terrorists’ excellent communication strategy. In Arabic, they spread unfiltered hatred that resonates with Gaza’s fanatical society and attracts new terrorist recruits. In Western languages, on the other hand, they spread watered-down propaganda and lies that win them sympathy among young people. In front of their followers, they boast of their atrocities; in the Western media, they deny them5.
Long before October 7, the terrorists had discovered our social media as an excellent tool for flooding young people with disinformation and turning idealistic, naive, uneducated students into fanatical Israel-haters.
When the murderers then ran rampant in southern Israel, Hamas’s communications specialists were exceptionally well-prepared for the cyberwar of narratives. Their 160-member social media team had already set up numerous fake accounts, which they now used to sow confusion and attack opponents. Russia, China, and Iran had provided Hamas with vast online resources for this purpose.
The fact that Elon Musk had opened the floodgates to hate propaganda on X made the platform the preferred medium for the Hamas butchers, followed by Facebook, by the China-affiliated TikTok—the No. 1 disinformation platform for 16- to 30-year-olds—, by YouTube, and Instagram. Their disinformation was willingly disseminated by Al Jazeera. Our “reputable” media outlets gladly and uncritically drew upon Al Jazeera’s appealingly packaged propaganda. Thus, the most brazen lies made their way into the very heart of our Western societies.
Does the West only love dead Jews?
The fact that Israel was able to hold its own militarily against its merciless enemies has damaged the country’s image in public opinion. Only those perceived as weak can hope for compassion in the West, and especially at our postcolonial-indoctrinated universities.
Hamas cleverly exploited our sympathy and used the suffering in Gaza for propaganda purposes. It successfully concealed the fact that it was Hamas itself that had caused this suffering.
Terrorists made Gaza’s civilians bleed so that Hamas could portray itself as weak. In reality, however, it is by no means weak. It has powerful protectors and financial backers in Iran, Qatar, Turkey, Russia, and China.
We must not wait to support Israel until it is weak enough for our liking. Because as soon as it is weak, it is dead.
The only reason why Israel’s enemies do not murder all Jews is because they cannot. And they won’t only as long as they can’t.
